To: Amiga-Relay@UDEL.EDU

I am also looking for a 1.3 printer drive for the SG10--NLQ is of
IMPORTANCE, BUT I'D ALSO LIKE TO GET AT THE PRINTER'S HIGHER DENSITY
graphics capabilities.

Thanks in advance.

Subject: HardFrame 2000
From: Leon D. Shaner <FAC2863@UofT01.Bitnet>
To: Amiga-Relay%Udel.Edu

I don't intend to cause bad publicity for MicroBotics, but if you're
waiting for a HardFrame, you may be waiting, and waiting and waiting...

I ordered a hardframe directly from MicroBotics about a month ago. No
indication was made that there might be a delay in filling the order.

I called about a week later, somewhat dismated to still be without a
controller (my Quantum Pro80s had just arrived an it was ordered the
same day).

They said they were waiting for parts from a local vender, and expected
to be shipping in a few days. It seems that at an earlier date they were
waiting for the aluminum frames, now they are waiting for pals.

The pal manufacturer is promising to deliver as each new day dawns. But,
still no pals <-- Read Still No HardFrame :(

To make a long story short, I was forced to go with a GVP IMPACT.
I am very please. I experienced none of the setup horror stories I've
I've been reading about on the net. Everything was automated.

I really have no way of knowing for sure which of the two cards is truly
superior, but I venture to say there is not that much of a difference,
if you have the GVP AutoBoot EPROMs installed. The truth of the matter
is the GVP may be more expensive, but it is here today, and just imagine
the anxiety of having a hard drive for over a month, with no controller!

The moral of the story... always check for availability of new products
before opening yourself up to a major disappointment :)

If I can find out for sure when the HardFrame is shipping, I'll post...

Leon

Subject: ReadySoft's Mac disk transfer provision
To: Amiga-Relay@Udel.edu

I was wondering if anyone knew if Readysoft's Mac emulator is required to
perform the three pass disk transfer from Amiga to Mac?

I have some PostScript files to print, but the only way I can do it, is to
upload them to our school's system, and have a consultant download them to
his Mac. I'd like to save him some trouble, if possible.

If the emulator, itself is not needed, anyone know how I can get a copy of this
utility?

Thanks in advance, Leon

Subject: MicroBotics Hardframe 2000

I just talked to Microbotics yesterday (02/13). They are still not
shipping the Hardframe, and haven't been for about six or seven weeks.

Any one who has one already may be in for a surprise when the "NEW" one
is released. Then again, maybe nothing will change, except the firms
subcontracted to make the board's principal components (which alreadhy
have changed.)

As a dealer, I am trying to keep in contact with them, but they keep
promising "We expect to be shipping by the end of the week."

If IC has them, they've got an early release, and I wouldn't expect them
to have any at this point in time.

Subject: 3.5" MeSsyDos Copier

In my quest to get files from the university's computer to my Amy, I
have chosen to download at 9600 baud to an I*M 3.5" 720K floppy. Well,
the files are on the I*M floppies, but I can't get MSDOS COPIER, or the
PCPatch utilities to work, because the don't like the 720K disks.

PCPATCH would let the PCUtils from the extras disk accept a 3.5", but it
didn't recognize my floppy.

MSDOS copier would give me a directory, and even pull files off the disk,
but only the first few files I downloaded worked, because they were short
enough to reside on only one side of the floppy.

I got both of these files as submitted to Bob.

Anyone know of a good utility that will do the job, or should I just
format as single sided?

Thanks in advance, Leon

SUBJECT: HIGH DENSITY DISK DRIVES (1.2 MEG & 1.44 MEG)

I am surprised not to have noticed a clarification of the problem in
using high density disk drives on Amigas. (Excuse me if this has in
fact been noted)

In addition to the differences in actual media, the drives have faster
rotational speeds. These can be overcome, but the fact that high density
drives require a controller capable of 500kbit data transfers is perhaps
the biggest problem.

I see no major problem designing an add-on controller that would provide
similar features to the WD1002a-FOX (An I*M contoller which allows use of
high density drives in an XT)

I would assume this would also limit the use of the MACK high density
drives, which are based on similar technology.

Please correct me if I've munged a few of the details.

Hello all,
I have a question regarding Dungeon Master, I'd put it in games, but I
don't have access... What levels can the ra keys be found on? We have found
3 so far, but that only gives us access to the main area with the jeweled
doors, etc. We have gone just about everywhere else, even past Lord Chaos
(very quickly of course :-) but we can't go any farther on the firestaff level.
We must have missed one something, but we can't figure out where...

Thanks,
