Just passing on the following mail message -- in The Amiga Companion I suggested that interested users try some pop to front/ push to back kinds of operations using windowing on the Amiga vs windowing on other current state of the art machines... this was the first letter I received in which someone actually tried it. I knew the Amy hardware was pretty good... but... I've purchased your "The Amiga Companion" book. I've : especially like your preface on the importance of multi-tasking and the : Amiga's dedicated hardware to support graphics. You've written about : comparing the performance of a non-Amiga computer running a "windows" like : program versus the Amiga's. Well, I was kind of skeptical but took up your : challenge. I use a Compaq Deskpro 386/25 at work running windows. And to : tell you the truth, you are right! The Amiga is faster in window switching : than the much touted Compaq machine. And just to think that this is Compaq's : most powerful machine! The Amiga folks should be commended on doing an : excellent job on initial design and having such foresight that indeed the : Amiga is very much ahead of its time. : -- : JL Gomez ..uunet!cs.utexas.edu!bodedo!atrium!sysop : : Rob Peck
