[comp.sys.amiga] 1060 Sidecar: does it work? With ANTHING?

dennya@pnet02.cts.com (Denny Atkin) (04/18/89)

I'm about to purchase a slightly used Amiga Sidecar for my A1000. I have a
few questions about how well it will work with my current setup. I'm
running a November 1985 vintage A1000 with grounded PAL chips, 1-meg
Insider ram expansion, and C Ltd. SCSI controller running a 40 meg
Miniscribe 8051S HD.

1) Has anyone ever tried the C Ltd. Controller board with a Sidecar? I
know the Insider has been known to work okay with the Sidecar, but
the Sidecar is supposed to be finicky with expansion devices and I've
never heard of anyone using an Amiga HD controller with one.

2) Are any of you Sidecar owners out there running IBM hard drives using
FFS and/or Janus 2.0? What kind of Diskperfs are you getting? I
might consider selling the A1000 HD setup and going for a Janus HD
if the C Ltd. setup won't work with it (should be able to get a 65
meg PC HD for what I could sell a 40 meg Ami drive for). If I could
get decent speed off of it, I could go for it. If it'll be like
going back to my old Xebec/SFS system, forget it. (As an example
of what I consider "decent," I'm getting about 178K/sec reads on my
current system. I don't need DMA speed, just better than 38k/sec!)

3) What accelerator cards are known to work in the Sidecar? How about the
MicroSloth Mach 10? (Supposed to be available cheap nowadays). Also,
I guess I would be asking way too much to want the Sidecar to work
with a CSA Midget Racer plugged into my 1000, huh? Anyone have
    one of these yet?

I'd appreciate any help or advice you folks could give me on this stuff!

Disclaimer: I'm adding PC compatibility because I need it for work.
