Hello all you happy net people: I am having a problem with my Sidecar. My setup is as follows: Amiga 1000 (non-grounded PALs) Insider Memory (set for auto-config under 1.2) Sidecar with 512K, clock/calendar/parallel/serial card parallel set to LPT2 serial to COM1 1 external 3.5 floppy Amiga side. 1 40meg Atasi hard drive configure 50% Amiga (using FFS hack from Transactor Magazine). My problem is that the hard drive does not always catch the information. It will work fine sometimes, while other times it will just stop in the middle of a program load. For example, I was trying to backup my drive, and I would only get part of the way through the backup before the hard drive/ SIDECAR would stop sending information over to the Amiga. The only way to get things to work was to reboot. When I reboot, I would get a blue screen. However, when I reboot again. ie reboot (get blue screen) wait a few seconds, and reboot again (while the colors are changing) , the blue screen does not show up. Also, running DiskPerf2 on my FFS/Janus drive gave me a reading of about 30,000 to 100,000 bits per second , depending on the amount of space used. Any comments, suggestions, or otherwise would be appreciated. This drive is driving me crazy. PS --- When is the Janus 2.0 libraries coming out. Some of us sure could use them now!!! :-) Laszlo Gulyas ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Life is a kumquat" -Agent 86 "Get Smart" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Set the Insider for non-autoconfig memory if you can - I assume autoconfig means memory @ 0xC00000. Use addmem @ 0x800000 or wherever... 3). Ground those PAL's! While you're in there, install the bus termination mods mentioned in the LUCAS threads - The SideCar is *very* timing-dependent. (Better yet, put the terminations on the SideCar side plugged onto the bus pins which were reserved for the (non-existent) SideCar 68000 memory card... | [...] |PS --- When is the Janus 2.0 libraries coming out. It is indeed well worth having - I've had a chance to test the Gamma version which is pretty solid with a lot of goodies. |Laszlo Gulyas | |------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |"Life is a kumquat" | -Agent 86 | "Get Smart" |------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers, -- __ Bruce Becker Toronto, Ont. w \cc/ Internet: bdb@becker.UUCP, bruce@gpu.utcs.toronto.edu `/v/-e BitNet: BECKER@HUMBER.BITNET _< >_ "A divine sparc turned me from nextrophilia" - NoNuke of the North

I used (and a friend still uses) a SideCar and Insider @ C0000. Explain please. > 3). Ground those PAL's! No comment on the LUCAS fix (I never tried it) but (come on you knew there had to be one, right?).... Some Amiga 1000's seem to have slow 68000's and ive found switching to a faster (or faster 010) helps in those cases. That "non-existent" memory card does exist and it also works! Even with an Insider if you set the memory to 800000. Just find a 1/2 meg board from a 'German' 2000 - install the proper connector on the solder side and plug it in.
