[comp.sys.amiga] Serial Expander 2000

nschultz@polyslo.CalPoly.EDU (Ned W. Schultz) (04/28/89)

I finally tracked down one of Golden Hawk's Serial Expander 2000 cables
that lets you add an A1000 serial port to your 2000 without losing the
2000 serial port. This is a 6" cable that plugs into the header above
the 2000 serial port inside the box. There is a 25-pin connector attached
to a metal plate so you can secure it outside the 2000.

This allows you to use A1000 serial devices without gender changers , etc.
The chief value to me is that I don't have to sell my MIDI interface and
buy a new one. Naturally you cannot use the two ports simultaneously,
but the 2000 port is not occupied by this cable...you can keep cables
attached to both.

There have been details posted here on how to build one and Amazing
Computing had an article about a year ago, I believe. But I thought there
might be at least one other soul out there who would want to take the
easier route, as I did.

I got mine (very quickly) from Abel Supply for about $12.
