Hello, For some time now I've had an irregular problem with my Amiga 1080 monitor. Every once in a while, the screen jumps and I simultaneously hear a spark from inside the monitor. Apparently, the spark causes a momentary voltage spike or drop, because every 1 out of 10 times or so the computer crashes (the crash may happen in any number of ways). Does anyone know exactly what this problem is and how to fix it? I've called local repair places but I can't get a unanimous diagnosis over the phone, and I don't want to bring the monitor in to someone who doesn't know what the real problem is and just charges me for doing something useless. Someone suggested dust buildup but I opened up the monitor and everything I could see looked pretty clean. So I now turn to the Usenet wizards for help. Sorry if this subject has been beaten to death before, but I don't have the time to keep up with the sheer volume of this newsgroup. Replies via email would be appreciated. I really need help badly as the problem is getting worse, I've lost work because of it, and I'm afraid it may damage my computer. When I saw similar problems at work(on Wyse terminals) the problem was the high voltage insulation breaking down, not dust. The symptoms are the same, but it didn't crash our computer as it was on a different circut. The fix: out technician would reapply the insulation. Check with a TV repair shop (I'm assuming your 1080 is out of warranty) and ask them if they think this is reasonable diagnoses... Alan Peery, peery@outlaw.uwyo.edu, borrowing a friend's account.
