[comp.sys.amiga] Seagate problems.

So are we to assume that the problem with Seagates and the
autoparking is SPECIFICALLY to do with repeated power on
power off cycles???

I've had experience with a number of seagates that are run continuously
and none of them have experienced any form of spindle locking
or any other glitches. (this includes a ST157N being used as
a swap drive on a Sun 3/50 (well it seemed like a good idea at the time..
(ended up being only useful due to the fact that we ended up with
35 meg of swap and the thing basically pulled the 3/50 right off ethernet
once it was up and running with whatever application we used..)))
anyways that 157N has been running for nearly 8 months without
a barf or a problem, and its NEVER been turned off.
(and you can imagine the load that that thing gets as a swap drive)

My drive at home (also a ST157N) gets run continuously and is never
turned off, and its worked fine for 3 months...

Should I assume that after 9 months, i should NEVER turn my drive off??? :-)

any info would be desired...

and I'm still looking for performance info on various controller/system
configurations with ST157N's (let me know all the formatting details,
the controller etc. etc. etc. (esp interleave)
