[net.general] A new [novice] user asks... <a cry in the wilderness>

I am a new user on usenet, and have not quite gotten the hang of
it...  Can anybody tell me a routing to the ARPA-net?  I've seen
all sorts of things in the net.general newsgroup that have come
from the ARPAnet, but I can't seem to reproduce the addresses...
The comercial at sign is elusive, but I don't know if uucp style
mail accepts addresses like "decvax!somen!gordon at SHASTA" or
similar addresses.

If anybody out there wouldn't mind helping a novice a little,
would you please either send the information or a pointer to
where I might find it?  Please reply through the mail, not news.
