[net.general] Changing fonts

wsp (12/08/82)

I have been using vtroff with a versatec-80 printer.
Currently, I can change between fonts by specifically mounting
the font on the command line, e.g,

	vtroff -ms -2 nonie textfile

There is documentation suggesting that the troff command

.fp 2 nx

will also mount the new font, but this does not work. Is
there a patch to troff that will permit th changing of fonts
within the file rather than only in the command line?

Please mail me your suggestions.

Not sure of the problems you are having -- our version of troff certainly
allows .fp in the source (and in fact, vtroff simply prepends the appropriate
.fp lines in the troff pipeline.) One possibility is that you've taken the
"nx" in ".fp 2 nx" literally -- the "x" must be replaced by the typestyle --
"nr" for nonie roman, "ni" for nonie italic, "nb" for nonie bold. As well,
you need to have the appropriate .railmag file when printing the result
of your troff.
