This may be so, but Marshall's problem sounds just like the one I ran into
a while back. I had no problems with showanim on my GVP/Seagate 138N equipped
A2000 - so long as I used SFS. As soon as I installed 1.3 and FFS (only 1
30mb partition) showanim would display garbaged anims. I spent a few days
mucking about and discovered that the following mountlist changes 'fixed'
the showanim problems:

       MaxTransfer = 4096
       Mask = 0x7FFFF

As a matter of fact, I think just setting Mask = 0x7FFFF worked.

Unfortunately, this *reeallly* impacts disk performance - slowing it down by
at least a factor of 2.

I've seen the same stuff happen on an ST225N using FFS, using the latest
version of showanim (5.x??).

My solution was to put two partitons on my drive, 1 SFS, 1 FFS. And to do
my anim stuff on the SFS side.

One other item of note; I've had similar FFS problems with SA4D's anims *AND*
SA4D's copy protection scheme. SA4D uses two forms of copy protection -
look-up-word-in-the-manual and some sort of 'validation' file (stored in the
SYS:S dir). SA4D has problems reading this file under FFS *IF* MaxTransfer
and Mask is set as above. If it has problems reading the file SA4D won't
load. Talk about a catch 22! Think about it ... Without the MaxTransfer
and Mask params SA4D's anims get mucked up. With the params 'she 'aana
'gona load 'capn. So again my 'fix' was to have two partitions: the
SFS partition has all my executables, SYS: stuff, and anims; The FFS one has
all my other 'non-anim' data.

I had similar problems until I changed a couple parameter in my mountlist.
I had set maxtransfer at 4096, and changed something else (it's been six
months). I recieved a new installation disk when I ordered my autoboot roms,
and reinstalled everything. I have had no problems since, and HD performance
was up.
