[comp.sys.amiga] Wedge questions

ins_apvt@jhunix (Paolo V Troia-Cancio) (05/07/89)

I am planning to buy a Wedge for an A500 in the near future. I am thinking on
the RLL version with a 40MB, 40ms Miniscribe hard drive. Could some of the
people on the net using this product relate me their experiences with it?
How many Kbytes/sec are you seeing, and with which drive? Are there any
incompatibility problems with it? Any other comments/suggestions would be
greatly appreciated (eg. Should I go with SCSI instead?).

We have over 400 WEDGE owners around the world and I would be happy to send
anyone some of the "testimonial" letters we have received. I will not take up
more band width than necessary though. We have not run across any
incompatiblity problems with the 500 WEDGE. If you would like to get on our
mailing list for our new products and product updates please leave me mail with
your Postal Address. Thanks and sorry if this was too commercial.

I've had a Wedge with my Amiga 1000 since August, and I have
absolutely no complaints. Mine is setup with a DTC-5160 RLL controller,
and a Seagate ST-238R 30 Meg drive. I've had no compatiblilty problems
with anything. I don't have any performance ratings, however, (I've never
checked), but since I'm running a 65ms access time drive, no one would
want to see my performance anyway. (About all I can say is that I'm pleased
with the speed I get.)
If you want *really* fast performance and/or autobooting, go SCSI. But
if you don't want to spend the $$$ and you want a good HD setup, the Wedge
is a good way to go, in my opinion.
