Here I am again asking for sources of electronics computer aided design tools that run under UN*X. I seemed to have failed to get UCDS out of Bell Labs, so I'm still looking. What is needed is a graphics editor, suitable for schemetics entry and a circuit "compiler" like SCALD that will convert the picture to a connectivity list for input to our printed circuit board layout system. All this stuff has to run under 4.1bsd (hopefully 4.2 soon). The graphics editor should be adapable to a bitmapped, raster display. There is some hope. I have found the source for SCALD-2. It is available free from Lawrence Livermore labs. Send me mail if you want the phone number of the contact. But, before all of you rush into this thing, it is written in Pascal and has never (to my knowledge) been ported to UN*X. I'm looking at two graphics editors; The Picture Editor from Purdue, and Gremlin from Berkeley. Both produce nice presentation graphics but will have to be extensivly jazzed up to do schemetics. So, all you software hot shots out there, there is a market for such stuff. The introduction of the HP9000 workstation with UN*X as its operating system will only broaden this market. People are willing to spend "MONEY!!!" to get this stuff (a Daisy costs about $70K). There is getting to be a lot of people running UN*X (look at the net site list). How about someone doing something about it. Filling this type of demand is the American way and you might get rich doing it. --David Gunderson John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc (206)-356-5397
