If you can help, please E-mail me directly... This distribution has swamped my mailbox, and I can't afford to stay directly linked to it -- Thanks!! Hello there! I've been having many troubles with ASDG's VD0: Ram Drive, and I'm hoping someone can help me... My computer: A-1000, with 512k of ram @ $80000. [yep, I hacked it in!] My startup sequence: FailAt 10 ;Not without the extra memory, We're not! Setpatch Make512K >Nil: Addmem 80000 FFFFF Mount VD0: Startproc ; ARP 1.3 - Startproc starts driver Shell S/Shell-Startup ; Drew-Dillon-Borreo 3.03A Shell I have both the addmem that clears memory, and the one that does not (as far as I know) - Neither makes any difference. I will use AddMemForever when I seek and find a couple of cold solder joints that are still lurking (they make the memory occassionally unreliable :-) )... My mountlist is the one that ASDG provides, with the exception that HighCyl is set to 31, and BufMemType is 5. I can mount the device, write to the device, list the device's directory, and delete files. But, if I try to read the files: Boom! Read/Write errors. The device is also _not_ recovering. I called ASDG, and they were unhelpful, to say the least. Whoever answered the phone even asked me if I had registered the product!!! I'm not inclined to register somthing that can't be made to work :-) . I do not know what Perry Kivolowitz's e-mail address is, but if anyone knows, I'd appreciate the chance to ask him this directly. He wasn't in when I called. Hope someone can HEAAALLLPP! me.... I do not Considering that vd0: is a well made and robust piece of software, and that clearly your problems have to do with something either in your flakey hardware, or possibly in your startup-sequence (which violates ASDG's instructions to mount vd0: before doing other stuff), I don't blame them. It's worked fine for me and for friends of mine for years. I don't use "make512K" and don't know what it does, but I suggest you try vd0: on a vanilla startup-sequence that follows their recommendations. Also why don't you try using the standard mountlist entry instead of trying your own modifications before you can get vd0: to work at all! It's really astonishing that people don't bother to try recommended installation procedures, and then complain when their ill-thought-out mods don't work. Being methodical goes a long way. Final suggestion: just buy AmigaDOS 1.3 and use the recoverable ram disk that comes with it. >If you can help, please E-mail me directly... That's just too bad...my experience is that it is close to impossible to mail to someone on bitnet (from Usenet). I quit trying over a year ago. For this sort of reason, it's considered both wise and polite to stay tuned to a group long enough to see posted answers. You can always use some kind of software tool to search for only the subject lines that address your question, after all. I realize you don't have 'rn' but there's always *some* way.
