The other day I tried to recover a deleted file off of my hard disk. I used an apparently old version of my Disk Mechanic utility which does not support the FFS. The program recovered the file ok but every time I try to manipulate it ( ie. delete, move) my machine would GURU. 1. So can I assume that the recovered file is in the old file system format? 2. The other files on that bad partition shoundn't be affected any should it? 3. Do I have to format the entire hard disk to fix the problem or can I just zero out the bad partition? I would appreciate any help. -- [ .signature eater ]

Seems like the Disk Machanic only recover the first 488 bytes in each block o of your hard drive, and then write it into a file which has an actual lenght shorter than the stated length. Well, I guess you may try to use DiskX to m modify the header block which may contain the false length. Or, maybe just backup your drive and reformat it (it will be the worst case, though). - Morris
