I found two bugs when using A-MAX: 1) It doesn't format 800K on the Apple 3.5" Drive even I specify Double-Sided. I have 128K rom and I have tested the drive on a Mac and it works fine. Just can't format 800K on A-Max. It just automatically format everything in 400K. It is fine when using Amiga Drive but this isn't what I want. 2) It doesn't save the Control Panel info to disk. Whenever I reboot the computer. It's gone. maybe 3) I still can't print anything to my Epson EX-800 from A-Max yet. I don't know why though. - Morris

I've spent hours on this one, I tried 64K roms, 128K roms, several version of the operating system, using different port combinations, etc ... I can't get the Epson emulation working AT ALL. Usually, it says "printing ..." then locks up the machine. One program (I don't remember which) actually crashes nicely with a system error. It's really annoying. If anyone has gotten this to work, could you please tell me what you did ??? thanks. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve Ludtke stevel@tybalt.caltech.edu ..!cit-vax!tybalt.caltech.edu!stevel stevel@citiago (Bitnet) OBS949 (Amer PPl lnk) 72335,1537 (Compuserve) XJM16487 (Genie)

The Mac doesn't save the Control Panel settings on disk. They are stored in battery backed up RAM (Parameter RAM). There are some Mac INITs that cause all accesses to the Parameter RAM to be stored on disk. Look around some Mac BBS's or archives. Dan Moore AT&T Bell Labs Denver dlm@druwy.ATT.COM

Be absolutely certain that you have one of the newer (platinum) Apple BRAND Macintosh 3.5" drives. ReadySoft says, in the manual, that you may have problems with anything but the "real McCoy". However, I've used a Cutting Edge Macintosh drive with no problems at all. >>2) It doesn't save the Control Panel info to disk. Whenever I reboot the >> computer. It's gone. >I thought it did this as well, then I realized I was usually rebooting the >computer rather than using the Shutdown menu option. It only saves the >control panel upon shutdown. Also, the Macintosh saves a good bit of Control Panel info (mouse speed, RAM Cache, System Clock, AppleTalk on/off, and some others) in a teeny bit of battery-back-up RAM powered by a AA battery in the Mac Plus, Nickel-Cad in the new Macs (II, IIx, IIcx, SE, SE/30). This info, obviously, is not saved by A-Max. >>maybe 3) I still can't print anything to my Epson EX-800 from A-Max yet. (416) 731-4175 Those problems are software-based, and have already been fixed. (the tech I talked to said they spent three sleepless nights getting these fixed QUICK). They had it working in the earlier versions, but with the final addition of a last few bells and whistles, they messed up printing and HyperCard. The updated version is availible - call ReadySoft and tell them. They'll take your address and send you the update. However, you have to return your original disks. (they'll tell you that, too). Finally I can play Risk at home! -=- | Jim Gaynor..."The Vampire Lestat" UseNet: gaynor@cis.ohio-state.edu | | The Ohio State University - Instructional and Research Computer Center | >> "It is useless for sheep to pass resolutions in favor of vegetarianism << >> while wolves remain of a different opinion." - William Ralph Inge <<

I gave readysoft a call about the printer problem. I talked to the author and he told me that the first shipments of the software went out with a bug that messes up communication with the parallel port. The serial port is fine (I have been transfering files and communicating with Versaterm ) but not the part that addresses the parallel port. They took my name and address and promised to send me the fixed version that day.
