[comp.sys.amiga] How i draw pitchers on my Ameega

rminnich@metropolis.super.org (Ronald G Minnich) (06/09/89)

Well, i now have the picture drawing environment i want.
I have an object-oriented drawing environment with mixed bit-maps
and (limited) structured objects; fast text with the best fonts
you can get; and Paintjet support. Oh, and of course, dimensioned objects
and resizable objects and grids and all sorts of nice things.
All for about $80.
How it got there:
1) Get a piece of the Rok
2) See the Wizard of Ozer
3) read comics

Ok, to start from the end, i borrowed my brother's ComicSetter again. I am
going to buy this one now. They have lots of nice pictures (for my comic
of SuperNetworkMan) and you can create bitmap objects, drop them into
a picture, and still get at them as an object, in contrast to something
like dpaint, where once it goes into the picture, you are screwed.
It also has *great* font support, nice ways to import pictures, and so on.
Finally, printer support is terrific too. The only limit was the fonts i had
available (i.e. the standard crummy Amiga set). So, enter
Ali Ozer, who, doubtless inspired by Tom Rokicki's good AmigaTeX work
wrote TeXF, which converts the beautiful TeX fonts to amiga fonts.
SO, now i have ComicSetter, and can build beautiful viewgraphs which are
titled with AmigaTex fonts. I get nice fonts, and i don't get the slowness
of Pro Draw text. A wonderful system all around.
Once again, the community of good guys like Tom and Ali who write
useful software for the Amiga have made a commercial product more
usable. Thanks Ali and Tom!!!

P.S. Oh, and BTW, Dnet 2.0 is terrific
