[comp.sys.amiga] System requesters

paolucci@snll-arpagw.UUCP (Sam Paolucci) (05/05/89)

Why do some system requesters give the user the option to RETRY or CANCEL
if the system doesn't give the user any choice?

Specifically, why when I get a write error while writing to a floppy I
get a requester to either RETRY or CANCEL, and even if I choose cancel
it insists on retrying. And after retrying enough times it crashes
the machine!

Why do you get a choice of retrying or canceling when you get a software
failure? Has anybody retried and had the system recover for them? If
so I would really like to know.

It seems to me that if the operating system puts up a requester with
choices, when the user makes a selection, the system should listen
to it. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. Otherwise why even give the
user a choice at all.

I really hope this gets fixed in 1.4.

If I'm writing to a floppy and I get a system requester informing me of
a write error, why does the requester give me a choice of Cancel and Retry
when it ignores the Cancel selection. The think that really gets to me
is that not only it ignores it, but upon retrying a few times you get
a Software failure system requester. Once again it gives you a choice
of Cancel and Retry. Why? Has anybody ever chosen Retry and successfully
been able to escape the dreaded Guru? Why the hell do I even get
requesters that don't give me any choice?

I can tell why system Write erro requester dont offer cancel in some casess
( maybe all:-) but is sure dont crash the machine!?
I just tested: I gave up after 15 time, couldnt get it to 'guru':-)
But I'm sure someone know why.
