[comp.sys.amiga] Finding bad spots on a disk

carpent@coltrane.SRC.Honeywell.COM (Todd Carpenter) (06/13/89)

Hey folks! Once again I beg of thee assistance. I have an ST-506 hard disk
which has been (ahem) rather abused. Physically. There are now bad spots
which are not on the bad sector list.

Through liberal use of a varity of programs, (including diskchecker - Thanks!)
I can verify that there is definetely a bad *something* at C0730-H6-S16 for
instance.

So, can one become any more exact so when I re-prep the drive, I can include
the cylinder;head;offset in the bad block list? Or, when one *does* provide a
list, does the A2090a simply map out the entire sector? In which case I simply
divide to get the offset, and shoot for the middle of the sector.

Or, finally, is a format supposed to map things out for me? All it does is
hang when it hits one of these spots (the light goes out, and the process just
sits).

Setup:
  B2000
  A2090a
  AmigaDos 1.3

No, I am *not* concerned with the drive integrity. It is certainly good
enough for the uses to which I will put it. And the damage in no way
reflects upon the original drive and manufacturer.

Thank you, peoples!
