[comp.sys.amiga] Amiga info wanted

glenb@hpnmdla.HP.COM (Glen Baker) (12/21/88)

O.K. Here's your chance to tell me what a GREAT machine the Amiga is and
why I should buy an Amiga instead of an ATARI. Here's the scoop:

I'm looking to invest some $$ in a home computer. My primary intended use
for the thing is to be a MIDI controller (voice editing, sequencing,
libriarian functions, etc). So how does the Amiga stack up against the ATARI
in the MIDI world? How's the 3rd party software support? Is multi-tasking
an advantage for MIDI? Also,

                  WHICH AMIGA SHOULD I BUY?????

I was down at the local Amy store and the salesman there seemed to be
telling me that the 2000 was a waste of money and that I should buy a 500.
Is he right??

Finally, how about prices? I can get a 500 with color monitor, mouse, etc
for $975.00 locally. Is that good or should I go mail order?

Thanks for any info...honest I appreciate it!

Please e-mail, I don't read this newsgroup very often since I don't own an
Amiga!

Greetings:

I am seriously considering buying an Amiga in the very near future
and would like some advice/info.

I am a professional programmer (I prefer to program in C in a Unix
environment), amateur musician (interested in MIDI) and video game
junkie. My wife is a writer who plans on using the machine for
word processing (if she can ever get it away from me 8-) ).

I am debating between an A2000, an A2000HD and an A2500.

Could some of you kind folks EMAIL me some info on:

-- the pros and cons of these three machines
-- the compatability of software given all the different Amiga
	systems running around (68000, 68010, 68020)
-- what flavor of Unix is available on the A2500 ?
-- will Unix be available on non A2500's?
-- what is the Amiga's native operating system like ?
-- C compilers for the Amiga
-- word processors for the Amiga
     -- printers for the Amiga
-- hard disks for the Amiga

Prices for the above would also be helpful. Note: I live in San Diego,
so any advice on favored vendors in the area would be appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

Dave Ewing
