[comp.sys.amiga] Printer Recommendations

parris@mit-caf.MIT.EDU (Patrice Parris) (07/27/88)

Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous queries.

A friend of mine who has a 2000 and no net access wishes to buy a good
color graphics and text printer for less than $700. Does anyone have any
recommendations based on experience or hearsay (or even heresy :-)) ?

I am looking into the purchase of a new printer in the not too distant
future to replace the aging Gemini10X printer I currently use. I am currently
looking at 24pin dot matrix printers in the around $300.00 price range,
specifically the Epson LQ500, the Star NX2400 and the NEC P2200. It seems
like all of these are around the same cost, have the same relative speed
and are 360x360 dpi for graphics. The NX2400 seems to have a few more fonts
than the LQ500.
I am leaning toward the LQ500 because it is an Epson and is definately
is supported by any and all software packages for the Amiga which interest me,
WordPerfect and PageStream as well as a good driver from CBM. The NX2400
would be o.k. because I do like Star printers, it has more fonts and it
reportedly has paper parking like the LQ850 which is quite a bit more
expensive. It is said to be Epson compatable so I would guess that an Epson
driver would work o.k.
If anyone has any experience with these printers and has any preferences
any comments would be appreciated.

I am presently using an NX-1000 on my Ami-2000, and I use Epson printer drivers for everything. Never had a problem. Also I find the various fonts, paper
parking, and flexible panel controls very useful. The ability to lock the
printer into a specific font/pitch regardless of what preferences tries to send
is invaluable.

				Hope it helps

     I just got a Panasonic KX-P1124 (a.k.a. Roland PR-2417). I like it a lot.
It's got more features than you can throw rocks at, and does a nice screen
dump. Select EpsonQ in Preferences and away you go. Configure WordPerfect for
an Epson LQ-2500 for beautiful results.

But will the NX-1000 do boldface in NLQ? The old NX-10 I used to have
wouldn't and I seem to recall someone saying that the NX-1000 wouldn't
either. Is this so?
