[comp.sys.amiga] Printer Recomendations....Thanks

Thanks to all those who replied. It looks like the Panasonic NXP-1124
is the most popular 24 pin printer out there today. I have gone to see one
at a local computer dealer and I must say I am impressed with its features,
it has lots of fonts and the paper parking is nice.
Unfortunately I did not get to see it actually work with an Amiga, or
more specifically, did not get to see a page from PageStream or something
from DPaint print out on it. The guy who showed it to us had a PC hooked
up and dumped from WindowsPaint but their idea of a Helvetica font is
ridiculus, it was very blocky just like on the screen. So, I did not get a
real feel for how this thing would look dumping good fonts from a program
like PageStream, do any of you with NXP1124's use PS on it and if so how
is the output?
I am assuming that you are using the stock EpsonQ driver with it, I
know it emulates the LQ-2500 and the IBM ProPrinter. Is the printer in LQ
emulation mode when it just powers on or do you have to do something to it,
the guy again didn't really know. If you do have PS, or WordPerfect, do
you just use their EpsonQ drivers to make it work also. I heard from CBM
that they have updated their EpsonQ driver in 1.3.1 to handle the full
360x360 graphics mode, has anyone grabbed the update from a CompuServe
and actually tried it out yet?

I think I've made my mind up to buy this thing, I just would really like
to know for sure it is what I want before I spend the $320+ to get one. For
the $$ it seems like the best deal out today in printers, I just want it
to serve me needs well on the Amiga. Thanks again.

Very nice. Gee, can't think of anything quantitative to say :-)

No. Use the Nec PinWriter driver. It's the same as the Epson driver
with the addition of the 360X360 mode. In PageStream, use the NEC
P7 (or P6, I can't remember) driver.
