[which way does the fan go?]

!Yup. It should be pulling air through the Amiga and out the fan. This can
!have the disadvantage of also pulling dust into your Amiga, but it's done this
!way because the fan is mounted in the power supply. If it forced air in from
!the back, it would get heated across the supply before going to your boards
!and all.

Okay, since we are on the subject, what about that dust? I notice I get quite
a buildup (lint and pollen in the spring). Any problems with this? It's about
2cm thick now, and pushing my A2620 card out. My upright vacuum cleaner broke
off one of its brushes when I rolled it over the PC slots. Seriously though, I
spray it reasonably clean every now and then. Should the board be meticulously
cleaned?

Also, I have my cover off frequently and for long periods of time (week, here
or there) to play with my hard drives. Then the beast no longer has the nice,
well-engineered laminar air flow. Anyone had any heatup problems as a result
of this?

I occasionally remove the dust with some canned air. I've had my systems real
dusty (especially the one at home, my cats used to sleep next to it in
wintertime to keep warm) without any obvious problems. I suppose it could
goober up the contacts on the unused slots if it go too excessive, and it'll
definitely cause problems if any gets in the floppy drives.

Common sense claims you might, practical experience says probably not. Many of
the machines around work have no covers and lots of extra cards and such in
them (the one I'm typing on has a card using or obscuring every slot except
the video slot), and far as I know we've never had any heat problems. It could
happen, though, especially if you're in a hot, humid, unairconditioned room
like many folks this time of year.
