[comp.sys.amiga] Amiga X station justification

I would like to start recommending Amiga's for X window use to some of our
customers who are Unix users. If price/performance works out right then I may
be able to influence several hundred (or even thousand) units worth of buyers
over the next year or two.

But I'm not sure how to go about evaluating this, since I'm not very familiar
with X environments. What I'm looking at are customers who are using Unix boxes
(sometimes large numbers of them) primarily in business environments. They
are going to start buying graphics capability in one form or another.

Some of them will need professional workstations like Suns; they're handled.

Others may be tempted to buy X displays like NCD or Visual 640. This is
where Amiga's might be handy. Perhaps. I keep hearing the comment that
such X displays are "net hogs", and that an Amiga wouldn't cause as much
net traffic.

If that's so, then I can recommend Amiga's as a solution with a clear
conscience. If not, then I can't see why these people would need the
extra expense of an Amiga (the NCD is $2000, compare that with the
price of an Amiga 2000 plus ethernet plus X). I doubt they'd know what
to do with AmigaDos, nor can I figure out something to suggest.

Anyone with better info on these kinds of tradeoffs care to enlighten me?
It might lead to a significant number of Amiga sales in influential places
in the industry.

BTW the graphics requirements initially would likely be satisfied by something
like 640x400x4 on a 19" color monitor. Interlace may be an issue. Basically
something compatible with EGA.
	Thanks,

Doug,

whatever you do, don't take Stephan's advice. He doesn't belive in
Amigas as X-terminals!

:)
