[comp.sys.amiga] DirMaster help

protcoop@leibniz.uucp (06/23/89)

Has anyone out there been using the shareware disk catalogue program
called DirMaster? I used it for the first time last night and am having
a bit of a problem with it. For the record, so far the program is just
incredible! This is the way all PD/SW software should be. It is very
professional looking and quite easy to use.

I got all my disks catalogued with no problem at all. Then just for the
sake of testing out the program I tried to search for a certain file in
the database. I searched for 'README' which should be on a number of
think the default was 'DISPLAY LIST'. Any help would be welcome.
I am going by memory here so the names I give may not be correct. If
you have any ideas please get in touch with me. Thanks.

disks but the program told me it was not found. Is there something I
should know that I may be overlooking? There is a gadget just below the
string gadget to enter the name to look for. I think it was labeled
'SCOPE' or something to that effect. Judging by the interface of the
rest of the program, it seemed as if I could click in this gadget and
think the default was 'DISPLAY LIST'

In article <645@bnr-fos.UUCP> protcoop@leibniz.uucp () writes about
having problems with DirMaster.

I have been using DirMaster 1.1 and like it except for two annoyances:
It takes too much effort to search for another set of files and it does
not have a configuration option for databases on the hard disk.

To look for all files that have "brush" or "icon" in their names, I have
been doing th following:
  1) Select Fields from the Display menu to include all records.
  2) Select Custom from the Display menu, select submenu Names.
  3) Enter "*brush*" in the first "include" string gadget and "*icon*"
in the second. Select the "OK" button.
Too look for another set of files, I have had to do all three steps
over again, which includes 90 seconds for resorting the records.

What I would really like is for Gregory Peters to supply a program that
can be run from the CLI to answer the simple question "what disk has
program such-and-such?". Using DirMaster to read its own database is
overkill.
