[comp.sys.amiga] SIGGRAPH '89 Amiga Get Together

bcorrie@uvicctr.UVic.ca.UUCP (Brian Corrie) (06/21/89)

Hello Amiga Net Folk,

Are any of you amiga types going to be at the ACM SIGGRAPH '89 conference
this year, and if so would you be interested in getting together for an
evening or two for drinks etc. It sounds like y'all had a good time at
DEVCON, so why not try a repeat performance in Boston. 8-)

Is there anyone going that lives in the Boston area that could suggest
some place to meet. Is there anyone going at all. How about Dale demoing
his X on Amy. Leo, are you going??? How about some of the CATS people. I
seem to recall from the advance program that Commodore is going to have
a booth at the Exhibition.

Anyway, anyone and everyone, send me mail if you can, and I will try to
arrange something. If someone knows the ins and outs of the conference,
and has an idea of how to set something like this up, let me know. This
is my first SIGGRAPH, so I will be winging it.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

            Brian.

P.S. For those of you who don't know what SIGGRAPH is, it is the yearly
conference of the Association for Computing Machinery Special Interest
Group on Computer Graphics. It is being held from July 31 to August 4
in Boston, and is THE place to be to see the leading edge in graphics
technology. The conference includes paper presentations, a set of day
long courses, an exhibition put on by hardware and software vendors,
an art show, and a computer graphics theatre. It is a bit expensive,
but it should be a blast.

For those of you who are interested in attending, I can't help you
8-( because I don't have my advanced registration form here, so I can't
give you an address to write to. Can anyone else out there help. I can
send mail later if you can't get the address.

Hope I got all the Acronyms (sp?) right.

See you in Boston.....

Sounds like some of the code I have written!!!!! 8^)

Siggraph always has some number of meeting rooms at the conference that are
available for sign-up on a first-come-first-serve basis. The last couple of
years have always had an Amiga gathering of some sort there. Usually no
"big-shots" show up, just a bunch of users doing really interesting things
with their machines... Whoever gets there first signs up for a room in one
of the time blocks. If you want good attendance, try to avoid getting times
during classes or the Technical Session, thus the late afternoon time blocks
go fast...

As far as a less formal get together outside of the conference, well if
you figure out how many people to expect there are tons of places to meet
and drink. Let me know and I might be able to set it up (reservations, etc).

Also, the Boston Computer Society Amiga Group may be planning a special meeting
in honor of Siggraph, much as some California group did in S.F (or was it
Anaheim?) that was quite a success, but I am not involved in that...

I'm looking forward to it!
