The other component is the new Denise and the features of that cannot be utilized without 1.4. So get the new chip! Paul.

Hi Jim. We (Commodore U.S.) have not announced any details regarding an
upgrade procedure to ECS. However, since we usually allow authorized
service centers to purchase any chips separately, you should not end
up with a spare Agnus. Once again though, I must make it clear that we
have not announced any details yet.
