[comp.sys.amiga] latest version of vlt - ftpable?

duncan@csd4.milw.wisc.edu (Shan D Duncan) (06/29/89)

I noticed the latest version of vlt is on an upcoming fish disk...

Was it also sent to comp.binaries?

I could REALLY use this ASAP! If anyone does have this aready for
anon. ftp...???? It complements the work I have to do with "S" on
our unix system.

( yeah and I could order it from fred too :-) )

CONTENTS OF DISK 226
--------------------

Vlt VLT is both a VT100 emulator and a Tektronix (4014 plus
subset of 4105) emulator, currently in use at SLAC
(Stanford Linear Accelerator Center). Although the VT100
part was originally based on Dave Wecker et al.'s VT100,
many enhancements were made. The program requires ARP, and
it has an ARexx port. XMODEM 1K/CRC and Kermit protocol
support also included. This is version 4.036, with many
enhancements over the previous version, 3.656, included
on disk 202. New features include support for other serial
ports, external file transfer protocols, and "chat" mode.
Improved behavior on the Workbench. Tektronix emulation
now allows saving IFF files, PostScript files, and
printing bitmaps to the printer. Many other enhancements
		and bug fixes. Binary only.

As Shan already knows a zoo archive of VLT 4.036 is available via anonymous
ftp from gtss.gatech.edu [128.186.4.1]. Look in pub/vlt/vlt4p036 for
vlt4p036.zoo.

This is a binary file (not tenex or ascii). I have not provided a uuencoded
version of the zoo file this time. I don't want to waste the disk space
unless somebody wants a uuencoded version to be provided. Let me know
if you do.

The unzooed files only take up about 270K which is substantially less than
what I would expect Mr. F. Fish to devote an entire disk to. On the other
hand the zoo distribution doesn't come with any rexx*.libs any more, so
perhaps the Fish disk has the new releases of these as well (I don't think
I do.)

In any case if my copy of this distribution is incomplete I would like to
find out about it and complete it as soon as possible. If someone will
confirm that this distribution is complete, I'll ftp it to Bob for
comp.binaries.amiga, if no one else has already done so.

The last I heard from Shan he had been using it with no trouble for a
few hours. I have now used it myself for a couple of days with only one
problem arising from a small change in the scripting language (EXIT filename
no longer continues execution with the file filename, at least from init
scripts. Well I think it sort of continues execution and sort of doesn't,
but the documentation doesn't indicate such a usage anymore so I guess
it's no longer supported).

So I guess we've got a good copy here.
