I normally wait for others to ask these dumb questions, but I don't seem to have seen anyone ask this one, so here goes. I understand that the new ECS chipset will consist of the new "obese" Agnus and the new Denise. It has been established beyond a shadow of a doubt that the new Agnus will not work in an A1000, and that no reasonable amount of hacking will change that. But what about the new Denise? Won't it have to be pin compatible with the old one? What would happen if it was plugged into an A1000? Would it work at all? Would some reasonable amount of hardware hacking enable one to get the high resolution video modes? Or do these depend on some fundamental change in the new Agnus? In case that doesn't work, I still see a benefit for us old A1000 users: When all the A500 and A2000 owners rip out their Denise chips to put the new ones in, maybe we can get the old ones and finally get halfbrite support in the A1000's (yes, mine is that old). Correct assumption? Any comments? From people who know the answers? Markus Wandel dtsteen@dahlia.waterloo.edu <-- borrowed account (519) 884-9669
