I have had a number of problems with OnLine! 3.00. I dislike the fact that it is always trying to write to the disk. Suppose you change one of the parameter settings before you dial. I always leave my disk write-protected, and I select cancel when it tries to write. When I connect with a board, it doesn't give any tone. I have to cancel 2 requestors before it does. I remember setting the icon switch to OFF from the menu. Every time I went back to the menu, the make icon switch was back to ON! (It eventually saved it to the off position). I don't like the new queueing method as well. The single worst problem is that 3.00 frequently fails to call out the first time I select a number to dial. It goes for about 2 seconds, then I get a NO CARRIER or NO DIALTONE message. This problem persists until I abort the calling process. It always works the 2nd time. The OPEN/CLOSE menu selections work fine from my 3 MB Amiga 2000, but they crash my 1 MB Amiga 500 EVERY TIME (unless I cancel the selection). Perhaps some of the problems are resulting from the fact that I keep the disk write-protected, but I like my disks that way. I tune them with Disk Mechanic, and I don't like OnLine! degrading the optimisation. I expect MSS will update the program before long. Else I will start looking at A-Talk III. I also don't like that OnLine! has to read back from the disk in order to sound the connect bell. Stuart W. Pierce
