Pete Siemsen has done a complete rewrite of TECO in C. While this works on VMS and Unix currently, I have all source code for it and will be happy to pass it on to anyone interested in a COMPLETE TECO for Amiga. It lacks the W command so it can't display the teco-juggler Doug Merritt writes of, but will provide a nifty pipeline editor to do all sorts of bizarre things to text files. TECO is a VERY handy tool to have around where you need to reformat or edit files (esp. very long ones) and tends to fulfill the function of dozens of unix utilities once one learns it. Besides, it would let EVERYONE have the fun (??!!) of learning what their names mean as TECO commands. (I also have the machine readable TECO manuals.) The stubs for a W command are there, so one could make a full video TECO out of Pete's version, and probably could run ITS EMACS on it if one wanted to be bizarre enough. Things like VTEDIT and the TECO EDT emulator (which is quite accurate) might then also work. Note we're talking about 2500 or so blocks and 300+ files here, so don't tell me you want TECOC unless you're seriously interested in making it work. The code is available via the DECUS library also, on tape. Glenn Everhart Everhart@Arisia.ge.com
