I have had a Starboard II with the multifunction module attached to my Amiga 1000 for about two years now, and I'm giving some thought to buying a 68881 coprocessor to put in the multifunction module. My amiga still has the original 68000 processor in it. I read in the intro.comp.sys.amiga that there would be some speedup for math intensive programs, but it did not indicate a % increase or anything like that. I mostly use my amiga to run Maxiplan Plus and Excellence. Would a 68881 produce any noticable speed increase for these programs? At work I've started using Microsoft Word on a Mac II, and since then Excellence seems appalingly slow on screen updates. It continually stays about a paragraph behind me when I type. I know that my 68000 equipped amiga can't compete with the mac II, but if I add a 68881 will it help Excellence keep up at least a little bit? If anyone thinks it is worthwhile for me to add a 68881 to my Startboard II my next question would be which one? If I'm not mistaken, there are different speeds available for the 68881. Is there one particular speed which is optimal for my hardware setup, or is it simply the more money I put out the more speed increase I get? Thanks in advance for any advise. By the way, I'm using operating system 1.3. ------------------------ David Hurtubise Math Department University of Notre Dame deh@ndmath.math.nd.edu
