[comp.sys.amiga] wanted: commodore computers for disabled kids

era@era.ucar.edu (Ed Arnold) (07/08/89)

We are trying to put together two complete Commodore 64 systems for use
in a special education class for 6-12 year olds at Martin Park
Elementary School, Boulder, CO. These machines will become property of
the Boulder Valley School District, to be used in instructing disabled
kids with cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, etc.

We are hoping there's someone out there who may have some old Commodore
equipment they're no longer using and would consider donating; if we
are unable to locate donations, we will consider offers to purchase
used Commodore-compatible equipment in operating condition. (Please
note that donations would be tax deductible, as the equipment will
become the property of a public entity.)

The items we are seeking are:

o (1) Commodore 64 cpu/keyboard
o (2) Commodore 1541 disk drive or equivalent (5.25" floppy)
o (2) magnavox 13" color monitor or equivalent
o (2) surge protectors
o (1) Commodore-compatible printer, such as the Star NX1000C
o blank floppies in good condition
o general software suitable for educational use

This project is being done in cooperation with the Computer Foundation
for Handicapped Children (Tempe, Arizona), which has assembled a
large collection of special ed software, and tips on acquisition of
hardware, for the Commodore line.

If you are able to help in any way, please contact us per the info
below. If you call, be prepared to leave a message on the machine if
we're not in. Thanks in advance for your assistance ...

You should consider contacting Julie Bauer or John DiLullo at Commodore,
Ms. Bauer is Director of Marketing, and has done this kind of thing before,
John is involved with the educational area, one of them should be able to help
you out. You can get in touch with them by calling 215-431-9100 and asking for
either one. You can also write, which might be the best way to go, at:

Commodore Business Machines
1200 Wilson Drive
West Chester, PA 19380

Please dont E-Mail me because I have no control over these things, it is just
my job to refer people to the right place. In other words, I get to tell people
where to go :-)

Greg

You might want to contact the Art Dept at the University of Denver. They
have several old Commodores that they might consider selling or donating.
The Director is Maynard Tischler at 871-2846.
