[comp.sys.amiga] AIR drives and MEGATRONICS answer to my phone call.

phoenix@ms.uky.edu (R'ykandar Korra'ti) (07/11/89)

Ok, as several people here might remember, I posted some messages before
about having random write failures on my external drive. The drive is an AIR
drive made by Megatronics.
Well, I phoned Megatronics today - in fact, I got off the phone with them
about 10 minutes ago. They told me that they know huge numbers of A500 owners
have had problems with AIR drives. Want to know the reason they gave me?
BECAUSE THE AIR DRIVE DOESN'T WORK RIGHT WITH THE A500!!! In other words,
they're advertising a 1010 compatible drive that is specifically NOT 1010
compatible. They blame it on the A500's I/O chips and on the power supply.
(Which seems awfully strange, since I've seen lots of OTHER third party drives
work fine on A500s.)
I don't know about you, but if I'm told that a drive works with all
Amiga models, I expect that to mean that it works with ALL Amiga models. And
I'm not pleased at all. I made them give me an RMA number anyway, and I'm
going to send it in and make them look at it, but from the sound of the guy
on the phone it'll be a waste of my time. He claimed that 95% of the drives
sent in for repair are, quote, perfectly fine, enquote. This may be a job
for the Better Business Bureau...
                                                    - R'ykandar.

Cute. Really cute. Anybody interested in buying a used AIR drive for
a 1000 or 2000?
