[comp.sys.amiga] iff <-> gif converter

sprout@floyd.bellcore.com (Wayne Haber) (06/30/89)

Has anyone seen a program that will convert pictures from the Amiga's
iff format to the standard gif format?

Thanks...

Yes, I just got my copy of HIJAAK today. It'll convert IFF, and a few
dozen other formats back and forth. It'll also convert *to* Postscript
and Encapsulated Postscript.

It's from a company called Inset Systems. I got my copy from Micropro
as part of my "Wordstar Productivity Pack".

Formats:
Amiga IFF
CCITT Group 3 FAX
				GIF
Dr. Halo CUT
Fax Manager XFX
GEM Paint IMG
HP Laserjet PCL
HP Plotter PGL
HiJaak PIX
Inset PIX
JetFAX XFX
Lotus 123 PIC
MacPaint MAC
Microsoft Windows Paint 1.0	MP1
Microsoft Windows Paint 2.0	MSP
NewsMaster SHP
PC Paintbrush PCX
PostScript (Encapsulated)	EPS	(destination only)
PostScript (Unencapsulated)	PSC	(destination only)
PostScript (color printers)	CPS	(destination only)
Printmaster PM
Ricoh RIC
TeliFax "5000" MH
The Complete PC CPF
The EFax XFX
The Intel Connection MCX
TIFF (Compressed) CTF
TIFF (Uncompressed) TIF
WordPerfect WPG

PIC & PGL can be converted *to* anything else. They can only be the
destination format of each other (ie you can convert PIC -> PGL and
PGL -> PIC, but not say, IFF -> PGL) This because they're vector formats.

-----------
I'm not sure what some of those format *are* but it's gonna handle most
of my conversions.

The message from Leonard Erickson identified HiLack as converting
grtaphics.

Wher can I buy this, and how much does it cost?

There are a couple of IFF -> GIF conversion programs in the PD. I don't think
they will convert from GIF to IFF but you can easily do that with a screen
capture program (There are several of those around). The most notable IFF to
GIF converters I know of are called IFFGIF and HAMGIF. Obviously IFFGIF does
standard IFF images and HAMGIF is a HAM specific converter. I'm not sure
where you will be able to find these but I would suggest Compuserve or my
system which is located in NJ at 201/469-0049. You may be able to pick them
up in a binaries lib somewhere on the net.

I have HAMGIF, and as far as I know it is only a GIF viewing program?
The best one I have seen for converting from GIF to IFF is AMGIF. It does
HAM conversions to 256 color GIFS, and does a good job of it too!
