[comp.sys.amiga] Setting control panel in Amax

jacobson@uxe.cso.uiuc.edu (07/15/89)

About three weeks ago someone mentioned that they could not get the
changes in their control panel in Amax to save to disk and that after a
cold boot they were back to the original settings that were on the disk
when it was transfered from the Mac to Amax. I seem to remember a reply on
how one could get the changes you make to the control panel to save, but
at the time did not copy the info, and now I would like to know if I
am remembering right.

I have tried ejecting disks after I exit control panel both eject and
drag the icon to the trash can, but this does not seem to save the info
either. Is there some trick I am missing. I did not notice the problem
because I had already had all my desktop parameters set before I transfered
my boot disk from my mac at work. Then a friend tried to make changes to
his and could not. I tried and found the changes did not survive a cold
boot.

Please send replies via email, Thanks in advance!

RE: Why can't one save the Control Panel using A-Max?

Well, I posted the msg months ago, but final I got the answer is no. It is
because Mac saves some info of Control Panel to the parameter ram (battery
backup) and not to the disk. The A-Max is clever enough to save the info to
ram. But if you cold boot the computer, it is gone. The only way to go around
this is to get an INIT (some program type in Mac world) to retrieve the info
from disk which is save from a different system program (like the General and
Mouse). However, as there is no need for a Mac owner, there is no such thing
in the PD. Well, maybe an ST owner will have the answer, or even you can
program it yourself.
