No. The posting had a subject line clearly marking it as an advertisement.
Unless he repeats the article, he is clearly within the bounds of Usenet
"ethics".

No, because this is a truly innovative game. By simply existing on the Amiga,
it will serve to upgrade ALL Amiga games to come. Look at a partial list of
innovations--things NEVER seen before on any other game:

--32 blazing colors (No more monochrome Amiga games!)
--digitized sound (Finally, at long last!)

In fact, I'm darn glad these people posted this annoucement. I was dead
sick of reading all the "When, oh when will International Championship
Wrestling finally be here?" posts.

I see NO problem with posting an announcement ONCE for a new product. A number
of Amiga developers do like ASDG (Perry), Felesina(SP?) (Marco), etc... I
find it a service, IF posted once!

"Arkanoids", released at least two years ago, used 32 colors. Whether they are
"blazing" colors, you'd have to judge for yourself. I think they're pretty
good.

"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" uses digitized sounds for sound effects, for music
background (and it's pretty damned good, I might add) and also for voices.
"Strip Poker" (blush) had digitized voices last year. "Solitaire Royale" (if
that is the name or spelling) has at least one digitized sound (the cheering
when you win).

Overtly it doesn't sound like they're doing ANYTHING that hasn't been
independently before.

From now on, please check your hyperbole at the door.

No claim was ever made that these functions are unique, I merely listed
some features of the product.
I asked about posting such a message long before I did and the usenet
guidelines state one new product announcement per product is OK if you
warn people in the subject line. I am sorry if you did not like it and
were offended, it is the only wrestling game available for the amiga and
perhaps that means nothing to you, but I thought I warned people in the
subject line. In any case I am very sorry to any who found the message
offensive and will refrain from announcing any future games over the
net (apparently those publishers/manufacturers with "special net" status
are the only ones allowed to post product announcements here).

Sorry again if I offended any of you.

Actually, because Steve sent this out over MILnet there may be fairly
grave consequences. It all depends on the authority at hand. Usenet is
sort of an anarchy, the old ARPAnet was run by DARPA and they would pull
the plug on sites that misbehaved, and now NSFNet hasn't made any real
solid statement that I've seen. So ignore it and move on. Life is to
short to bicker about it...

The reason I posted this was to draw feedback so I could see where the c.s.a
readers stand on this kind of thing.

All the replies I have received E-Mail indicate that this is abuse while the
public postings indicate that its not abuse because it warned of a commercial
announcment in the header and that it was only posted once.

So based on the above it seems that a one time posting with proper subject
line is not abuse. This sounds fair to me.

  Thanx for all the feedback.

Refer anyone who gives you a hard time to news.announce.newusers,
which naturally they should read anyway.

You are easily within the limits of acceptable netiquette.
Briefly, multiple advertisements are verboten, simple announcements,
answers to questions, etc, are fine.

Some naive new users become self-appointed censors in the mistaken
belief that Usenet must pretend that commercial products do not exist.

I would be interested in hearing by Email from the person who skips
over an announced commercial message, without reading any of it.

Oh please! Some of the very first games available for the Amiga, 1.0 Kickstart
types, had digitized sounds, for example, One-On-One.

How about Co-Ed naked Jello (tm) wrestling in HAM.

Nope. can't do this. Too many male amiga owners would be found dead of
electrocution as they tried to reach through the screen.

Hmmmm, sounds like an ideal application for Haitek's X-Specs 3D to me: project
the Naked Co-Ed Jello Wrestlers into the viewspace in FRONT of the screen! :-)

Considering the amazing effects exemplified by "Space Spuds", this could REALLY
be a winner!

No problem, make it X-specs 3D, just don't bop yourself in the face %-)
