[comp.sys.amiga] general postings about games

mitchell@janus.berkeley.edu (Evan Mitchell) (07/15/89)

I was wondering, do you think it would be better to post information about
Amiga games in rec.games.video or rec.games.misc. It makes sense. Some
people do this, but I don't think it has been encouraged. We can save the
bandwith for serious issues that way. I love games, but it seems more
appropriate to post information about them in a game-only forum. If you do
start posting info in either of the games lists, please put AMIGA somewhere in
the title. I'm tired of reading about games on inferior machines. Feedback?

Or, how about a new group: comp.sys.amiga.games. This would cut down
on the volume to wade through for those of us that don't usually buy
games.

needs these days!!!

What!?! Games aren't "serious"???

The title of the newsgroup is comp.sys.amiga, NOT
comp.sys.amiga.minus.stuff.not.important.enough.for.this.group

If it has something to do with the amiga, then it belongs in either
this group, or comp.sys.amiga.tech.

Personally, I'd rather keep the amiga games stuff on comp.sys.amiga. I
have enough trouble keeping up with this mailing list and would be
forced to miss out on amiga games info by it being on another list which
is mostly unrelated to the amiga. My interest is not in the amiga as a
SUBSET of computer game systems, but in computer games as a SUBSET of
what I do with my amiga.

I for one like the games postings as long as they have something to do with
Amiga games. I can't get any of the rec series and would like to keep informed
about how others feel about Amiga games. It helps with my buying decisions.

I agree. We need something like comp.sys.amiga.games or
comp.sys.amiga.rec. Kill files are one thing, but every time a new
game topic comes up (or a new game) I have to add that to my kill
file.

I would not like to see a games only group, or any other new groups yet.
I don't even play games, but I have 2 kids who do. comp.sys.amiga is
pretty much the only way I learn about new games. When a new game appears,
I look at a few postings to see itf it looks interesting. This has lead to
the purchase of various games for birthday gifts, etc.

Similiarly, I have learned of a number of new products this way. I probably
would never have bought amigaTEX except for the consistant high praise for
it here on the net. (Seems stange to say this in retrospect, after using it-
how could anyone get by without it?)

I would much rather have everything together in one place (well, two: .tech),
skim the headers and read the 10 or so articles a day that look interesting,
depending on what I had for breakfast or some other changeable parameter.

I have to agree with Dave, this Amiga specific info, and whether you care or
not about games this is where it belongs. I rarely play any games but still
enjoy reading about them and am even considering SimCity AND Populous,
because of what has been said here.
