I just received my DigiPaint 3 upgrade in the mail. My impression can be summed up in one word: WOW! I'll leave a full, indepth, heart rending review to the experts. But here are a few comments (yeah, I should leave these to them, too. They can do the program justice): 1) Fast. boy, oh boy, is this fast. Yeah, I'm running on basically a 2500, but still! 2) The palette is a *lot* of fun. There are so many ways of moving through it, seeing neighboring colors, etc. I didn't know how many color 4096 were until this. 3) Shading, texturing, dithering all are improved over the old DigiPaint (which I thought was wonderful anyway) 4) Scrolling whilst working on superbitmaps (or just plain old 768x480 hires) works quite well, and is intuitive and smooth. 5) Resizing: cut out a brush, select TxMap, and scale some box to put the new image in, and it resizes the picture to fit. I've done some unreasonable size changes - way big, and way small. Amazing results. 6) Warping pictures onto spheres, cylinders, etc., is something to be experiences. You simply cut out a brush, select what the warp surface is, and paint away. Note this also does scaling. The program should be experienced. It is well worth the cost, especially if you are upgrading from Digipaint. No, I am not affiliated with NewTek, except being a very satisified customer. I am still waiting by my mailbox for the day my NewTek Cool Guy kit arrives. -Todd C.
