Topic: Quality Standards for CAI instruction software The Video-Computer Courseware Implementation System (VCIS) software group at the University of Utah has been awarded a contract by the Navy to develop a Computer Based Educational Software System (CBESS). The system is to be based on four educational software systems already developed for NPRDC and on the VCIS software. The software will be used to implement computer-based training materials in the Navy. In general, the software will be used by subject-matter experts with little or no knowledge of computers or instructional design. As the first part of this contract, we are to "prepare a quality assurance document enumerating software-engineering standards and instructional quality standards that computer-based educational applications programs should be required to meeet for acceptance into the CBESS system library". We are considering developing tools that facilitate meeting the standards. We will be using the UNIX operating system and C. We are looking for software tools, such as the Revision Control System, to help with the software and instructional quality control. We would appreciate any suggestions, comments, preprints, and reprints. Material can be sent either to Brandt or B-Knapp @Utah-20 or Department of Compueter Science, 3160 MEB, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT 84112.
