The following trick with Disksalv may be of use for some of you: When I bought my Seagate ST157N, I found out that the manufacturers documentation did neither include the number of cylinders (this is quite ok) nor the number of heads (this is less ok). So I had a troblesome job bringing my two partitions up and running, because the first one, which was initialized by Prep was configured to 6 heads and the secode one was initialized by myself with only to 6 heads and the secode one was set up by myself with only I had no way to find out how many heads I really had, so I ran DiskSalv dh2: (dh2: is the first partition created by Prep) and ta-dah: when DiskSalv displays the information about the source device, it also gives you the number of heads. The Seagate 157N is in the Prep list of HD's, and therefor set up properly with 6 heads. So if your HD is in Prep's list and you have to know specific information about it, prep the first parition and run DiskSalv...it gives you everything you need to write a correct mountlist entry for further partitions. -- ---------------------------------------- Chris Brand - wizard@sosaria.ccs.imp.com "Justice is the possession and doing of what one is entitled to" - Platon ----------------------------------------
