[comp.sys.amiga] Need info on ST277N Hard Drive..

multi@vax1.acs.udel.EDU (Chuan Su Kuan) (08/14/89)

Just got a Seagate ST277N Hard Drive a few days back. Haven't got a chance
to use it yet since I am still shopping around for a good, cheap controller.

What I am posting about is this little problem with adding a LED light to the
drive. If the drive came originally with an LED indicator, I won't know, sinceI bought the thing second handed and the person whom I bough the drive from was
away for vacation and won't be back for another week. Now the drive itself
seemed nice (though as I mentioned earlier, I am not able to test it out
withoutthe controller) but there is this little hole on the front panel of the
case, obviously a once sweet nest of an LED indicator. Upon carefully pull
the drive away from its case, I found these two wires soldered on to bottom
of the CKT board (interface) attached to the ST277n and was twisted together
and isolated by electrical tape (so it appeares not a factory warented job,
the wraping of the tape, I mean) which I suspect to be the pair of wires used
to go hand on hand with the (must be broken) LED. The is mostly a suspecion
since I see no reason why, if the pair of wires are indeed driving the LED,
should be twisted together doing so will short it out and bomm...... a big
band... But the drive is woking find, apparently with the current cond.
??????????????? So where, if I want to install a LED to my drive, should,
would, the two conducting points be?????????????

I would pretty much like to have a little cute LED on the front panel of the
hard drive case so I can tell when it is doing a R/W operation, and, therefore,
prevent myself from any silly, avoidable behavior (such as do a warm boot
while the drive is doing a write....etc).

Because I lacks the tech. menual, and wasn't able to contact the original owner
for a while, I find myself asking for help posting on this net. Please,
anyone out there who own drive of the same model or who has the experty to
solve my problem of installing the LED on the hard drive, please E-Mail
me the necessary information. All help is appreciated. Thanks.
