[comp.sys.amiga] ST412/506 Interface for A1000

dmose@sequent.UUCP (Dan Mosedale) (08/13/89)

I recently bought an ST412/506 type hard drive and am looking for a hookup
to my A1000. I have a Spirit Insider board with 1 Meg installed. I'd be
interested in hearing about any good/bad experiences you folks have had with
any such controller/interfaces. Are Palomax / or the Wedge any good? How
about Spirit / Supra / & Compsec? Any other recommendations are welcome.
Thanks!

Hi! Some time back, I bought a C-Ltd disk controller for the A1000.
It runs as a SCSI controller. I also bought an ST506 <-> SCSI
adapter from C-Ltd. Basically, I had lots of trouble installing
the stuff. The adapter they sold me came with zero documentation,
like where to attach cables and how to set DIP switches. I ended
up spending about 4 weeks installing stuff, with lots of lost hair
and long-distance calls to Kansas.

Their score: (all on a scale of 1..10)

	software:	5
	documentation:	4
	hardware:	7
	support:	4
	price: 7

In general, if I had it to do over again, I'd buy another SCSI
controller, but I'd try another company. (Even if it cost more
money.)

Hope this helps...

I also bought this controller. Believe me, their documentation
and installation procedure have improved A LOT. I am quite happy with
the controller and have no complaints. It is not the world's fastest
controller (the old style, not the new fast "Kronos" controller) but it's
fast enough for me.
