I sent the following letter to Commodore on 4-13-89. I have gotten NO RESPONSE of any kind. No manual, no letter, no phone call. What does it take to get the manual to my A2000? Is Intercomputing an authorized Amiga dealer? Since sending this letter I have installed a 2090A and hard disk. -- Charles Brown charles@cv.hp.com or charles%hpcvca@hplabs.hp.com or hplabs!hpcvca!charles or "Hey you!" C 1200 Wilson Drive West Chester, PA 19380 (215) 436-4200 I have recently bought an Amiga 2000. I am writing because of problems with the order. On 12-29-88 I mail ordered the Amiga 2000 from Intercomputing of Grand Prairie Texas (214) 968-3500. The check cleared my bank on 1-5-89. It was 2-16-89 before the computer arrived. That inordinate delay was frustrating, but it is not the reason I am now writing. The problem is that the shipment was incomplete. The only things included in the box were A page that said "Please Read This" and went on to say not to assemble the computer without reading the assembly instructions first. Note that the assembly instructions were not included in the shipment. AC line cord Mouse Keyboard Mainframe with 1.3 ROMs installed Manual for Basic Buyers Guide Silicone Jell Notice that there were no manuals for the computer itself. There was no software included, no floppys at all. There was no description of the warrantee and no warrantee registration card. I called Intercomputing the next day and described what was included and what was missing. They promised to send the rest of the shipment. On 3-5-89 I received the enhancer package. On 3-13-89 I called Intercomputing again. A fellow named Dabe assured me he would fix the problem. I requested the number for Commodore Support. He told me that they do not have it because "Commodore changes it almost every week". It is now 4-13-89. I have heard nothing more from Intercomputing. I contacted Carolyn Scheppner who forwarded me to Greg Givler. They have been helpful, giving me the support number and address. Please tell me what I need to do to get The manuals for the computer itself, i.e. Introduction to the A2000 Users Manual (these two may be the same thing) The description of the warrantee The warrantee registration card So far I have managed to connect my parallel printer and serial modem without damaging anything, but I feel crippled without documentation on what pins are connected to what. I hope to soon connect a hard disk. I would rather not try that without documentation. Is Intercomputing an official supplier of Amigas. I had assumed that they were. I am impressed with the power and quality of the Amiga line of computers. It would be bad for that reputation to be tarnished by the sloppiness of a supplier. I have enclosed a copy of the sales invoice. I am also sending a copy of this letter to Intercomputing. Thank you

In article <5660052@hpcvca.CV.HP.COM>, charles@hpcvca.CV.HP.COM (Charles Brown) writes... [Real sad and true story/letter about troubles with Intercomputing deleted in favour of bandwidth.] I assume that upon your public letter someone from Commodore will/has contact(ed) you. Please note that the CBM'ers who read this group are mostly non-[sales/service/customer support] people, so don't expect an ultra-fast reply from a person in the right place. Now, about Intercomputing, I have a story or two to tell... In February '87 a small (not physically, damnit :-) German distributor (and Amiga fanatic) and my humble person (used as translator.device :-), visited the US, made some deals in the LA area, visited Fred Fish in the always toasty city of Tempe/Phoenix, and the more icy regions of the Cltd. premises in Wichita. During this trip my friend also ordered a large quantity of soft/hardware from Intercomputing, including some Microbotics RAM expansions for the A1000 (Starboard?). These items where delivered without any serious delays to Germany. Two of the Starboards died in the following year, so we took them with us on our trip last year to the AmiExpo in Chicago, to mail them from inside the US, thus saving some money and avoiding time consuming customs hassle. The boards were to be fixed (warranty was over) and the coprocessor board was to be installed. This time, Intercomputing took it's time. I did take over 4 months and several phone calls from my friend and the nice guy w/o an Amiga, John Kjellman (thanks for all, John!), to pry them out of their hands and get them back to Germany. Seems like their performance is going down over the years... A substantially larger German distributor whom I also know well, finally stopped doing business with them after several disputes. We (The Software Brewery) wanted to distribute one of our few commercial products thru them (you might have seen the AntiVirus add in Confusing Computing ;-), but after endless delays and ever dropping profit margins decided to pull out of the American market. Sold several hundred packages in the "homeland of piracy", though. Not too bad! ;-) And this with 4 times better profit than Intercomputings last offer and at half the US price! >Is Intercomputing an authorized Amiga dealer? If they ever were, they shouldn't survive the dealer/distributor reorganisation going on in the U.S.A. > Charles Brown charles@cv.hp.com or charles%hpcvca@hplabs.hp.com > or hplabs!hpcvca!charles or "Hey you!" > Not representing my employer. All this will do Charles probably no good, but at least the audience (that's you, buddy ;-) is warned.
