[comp.sys.amiga] CLtd. Controllers

In a letter dated: 23 Aug, 89 Mr. A. Johnson jr. states:

>my times are around 70K reads and 54K writes at 1024 byte buffer.
>...given these values I am not too impressed with the Kronos....

There are many things that can cause this slowness. First your interleave
sounds way too high for a Kronos. Interleave can really change performance.
Before I got my Kronos, my old CLtd. controller and Adaptec 4070 and 33M drive
could only do 134K read, 80K write with FFS and 3.0 of SCSI-DOS.

When I switched to Kronos, I ran the drive AS-IS and GOT EXACTLY THE SAME
SPEED! I had the drive with 5:1 interleave. I change interleave to 2:1 and
the drive/adaptect is now running about 300K reads and 250K write. This is
about all I expect I can get from the Adaptec and drive.

My Seagate 157N SCSI drive did about 200K/150K with old controller and is
now running at 450K/400K with Kronos. The seagate is 40ms drive with 1:1
interleave.

btw these time are with IRQ enabled. Please don't get discouraged. If you
need any more help contact me by email or phone. Also call CLtd. they will
do their best to help you with a Kronos. If they don't, let me know!
