[comp.sys.amiga] Maps

slc@hoptoad.uucp (Steve Costa) (05/19/89)

Are there any commercial or freely distributable map graphics files? I am
looking for high quality maps down to the state or county level suitable
for integration into desktop publishing documents. Color is not necessary,
just good line drawings.

Public Brand Software (800-426-3475) offers two map disk sets in MS-DOS
format. Three disks of world map data are described as follows:

Over 100,000 points for mpaping the world. Contains latitude and
longitude of geographical borders and coastlines. Arranged into
continents, the points go down to as close as 1 mile apart. This
would be good data for a fairly simple graphics program. The major
difficulty would be in programming the projection system you choose to
use. Note that this data is useful for large-scale mapping only.

A single disk of US map data is described as follows:

As above, over 15,000 points for mapping the U. S. A. Contains
latitude and longitude of geographical borders and coastlines for the
     48 contiguous states and D. C.

You could transfer the files to AmigaDOS format with the PCCopy utilities
on your extras disk.
