To date, there have been 6 entry envelopes received through the post office box announced for the Badge Killer Demo Contest. For those who are madly programming in the hopes of making it in time, here it is again: BADGE Contest P.O.Box 31008 Los Gatos, CA 95031 Reason for the update? Just a reminder, thats all. Looks like its a contest anyway. I have not seen any of 'em. They've all been turned over to the organizers. I'm a spectator, hoping to become a participant (oh my, how time flies). Rob Peck

A piece of bad news for BADGE is the change of location: BADGE lost its wonderful meeting place in the Turing Auditorium of Stanford University. This will come as a surprise to a lot of BADGE members --- the news wasn't known at the August meeting of BADGE and thus a room change was not announced. If and when a room is found before the September meeting, a message will be posted. Because of the change, the September meeting of BADGE is likely to be somewhat chaotic and BADGE members who might not know about the location change will miss the meeting and the judging. Thus the Second BADGE Killer Demo Contest has officially been moved to the October meeting of BADGE, likely to be held on the third Thursday of the month. Entries will be accepted until the contest. (Of course, the earlier an entry gets to us, the more time you will have to fix it up if we run into any problems during the prejudging.) BADGE Members: Please tell your friends of the change. Everyone: Get your killer demos in! BADGE Killer Demo Contest Committee [Questions may be mailed to Ali Ozer, ali@polya.stanford.edu] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Here's the updated versions of the original BKDC 2 message: BADGE Killer Demo Contest 2 BKDC 2 will be held in the October meeting of BADGE, tentatively scheduled for the third week of October. Entries received until the day before the contest will be eligible to enter. Entries should be submitted on floppy to: BADGE Contest P.O. Box 31008 Los Gatos, CA 95031 The rules for the contest are very basic. Each entry > must be easy to install and run > must be safe to run > must be freely distributable > must promote the Amiga Any entry can be disqualified for the following reasons: < the entry crashes the system < the entry has or installs a virus < the entry does not exit the system cleanly < the entry is not freely distributable < the entry requires disk to be write enabled All entries should be accompanied with a README file indicating the minimum configuration required to run the demo and exactly how to start and stop it. The following prizes have been promised so far; at this point the list is subject to change (most likely grow). As the list finalizes we will provide up-to-date information. Amiga Jacket donated by Boing A2000 donated by Commodore Programmer's Guide to the Amiga + disk, The Amiga Companion donated by Datapath Elan Performer donated Elan Design Populous, Zany Golf donated by Electronic Arts A2620 Board donated by Go Amigo DigiView Gold, DigiPaint 3 donated by NewTek AmigaTeX donated by Radical Eye Software 2400 baud mini modem donated by Xecom Judging will take place at the October 1989 meeting of BADGE, with the audience voting. There will be no explicit categories for "best graphics" or "best sound" (unlike last year), however, there will be a special award for the funniest demo, and, of course, awards for the overall winners. BADGE is the "Bay area Amiga Developers GroupE". The group consists of developers and users who enjoy working on the Amiga and want to promote it wherever possible. The goal of BADGE Killer Demo Contest is to get people to create demos that promote the Amiga; it has succeeded twice so far (in BKDC0 and BKDC1) to attract a killer collection of demos which have made their way into dealer windows and many freely distributable disk collections. BKDC0 Best Overall winner was "RGB," by Joel Hagen; BKDC1 winner was "Charon," by Brad Schenck. BKDC2 is your chance to become famous! Please give this posting wide distribution; if you don't see it on your favorite bulletin board, upload it; if you don't see it in your local user group newsletter, give it to the editor. If you have friends who use Amigas but don't read newsletters or bulletin boards, print copies out for them, too!
