You say you tried it without the cage, but imply that you tried the memory card
elsewhere. You should, if you haven't done so already, try each piece
individually. ie. Cage and Micron board without the HD, cage only, cage (empty)
and HD, without the Micron. If you have access to another A1000, you could try
your peripherals on that one (I do know someone in Regina with an A1000 who
might be willing to let you try it).

You might also try powering the cage/Micron card externally if there is
provision for that.

The main thing, at this point, is to isolate the actual failing major
component.

The results of the testing should give you a better idea as to what's
happening.

I have an 1000....
For nearly three years its given me yeoman service which is quite
a nice thing to get from something that nearly drove you
into bankruptcy at the time... :-)

However, last week, it wouldn't power up.

System:
A1000, Comspec SA1000 SCSI Controller, Micron dual slot Cage with 2 meg
ram card.

For over 6 months the above had run quite nicely, with
only the occasional power down for business trips...
(usually I'd leave it powered up all the time)
I powered things up on Friday, and no dice. With both devices attached
the system didn't fire up. After I removed the cage, the
system came up fine, (well, until the hard drives startup
sequence attempted to fire up my usual 700K of applications ( into 512K) )
The 2 meg card is functional, but the system doesnt work with the cage
online...

I grounded the pals. No dice.

Local dealer thinks that one of the 8520's might have gotten shot,
and is getting pulled down by the extra load of the
cage... Possible????

I suspect that its give up the ghost time for this baby,
I'd rather not, but if anyone can give me any ideas, I'd truely
appreciate it...

Thanks....
