[comp.sys.amiga] The WB 1.3.2 upgrade

lgreen@pnet01.cts.com (Lawrence Greenwald) (09/06/89)

This may be a rehash for some, new to others...

For those of you who have accounts on GENIE, CompuServe or PeopleLink...

Commodore has sent the newest revisions of Workbench, version 1.3.2 to the
above services. You have to download both the license agreement and the zoo'ed
file.

*WARNING* Commodore's licensing agreement forbids the uploading of these
software items to private bulletin boards. If you see it on one, please inform
the sysop of that system that the agreement between Commodore and the two
above mentioned systems allow the posting of software upgrades to those pay
services only. YOU MAY NOT UPLOAD THE SOFTWARE TO ANY OTHER BOARDS!!!

Please, let's abide the rules on this one...It's a step in the right direction
for Commodore's software support...let's not ruin it!!

Great. What is this message doing on news ? If you want to inform people
who have accounts on GENIE, CompUserve or whatever, wouldn't it be much
more logical to spread the word amongst those people ?

Sounds to me more like an advertisement a la:
'Hey you people, join Ca$hboard for the latest Commodore software.
Only on Ca$hboard. Join us. Now.'

True. And posting on comp.sys.binaries would be a jump across the
 atlantic ... (Ocean that is)

Do not take my (cheap) sarcasm personally, Amiga still rules OK.

But if I'm not mistaken, sysops are allowed to download it and to offer it
for downloading. The license specifically prohibits only uploading. (What
about cross loading (e.g: FidoNET). Perhaps there is more to the agreement
than I have seen?) Curiouser and curiouser... -ss

YES ... I am a french Amiga user, and I cannot access BIX, GEnie, ... and co
USENET is really international ... So, please Commodore, put WB 1.3.2
on USENET in the binary group. International user will really appreciate !!!

Thanks in advance

You are indeed mistaken; the license specifically prohibits electronic
redistribution, either by sysop or by FidoNET.

I wonder if I'll be the top poster in comp.sys.amiga this month ? :-)

Life gets pretty complex the minute you stop mooing.

Suggest you read section I, paragraph C, sub-paragraph 1. Look for the
keyword "NETWORK". If you (or the nearest lawyer) were to take maybe a broad
interpretation of the word, it might explain why CBM can (and just might if
you're not too careful!!) sue you for putting it on your local BBS. ("It's our
product, we'll dole it out as we damn please! BWHAHAHAHAHA!!!")

But then again, it's *only* my opinion.
