I have the opportunity to get a system from my Dad, and I'm wondering
what a fair price for it would be. The system is ...
* Amiga 1000
* standard color monitor
* 1 Mb memory expansion
* 2 3.5" "floppy" disc drives.
* Okidata (Okimate/20?) color printer.
* Bunch of software...
Also, what do other peripherals/interfaces/whatever generally cost?
Specifically, I'll probably want
* a hard disc at some point (controller/disc costs)
* something to plug a modem into (do they come with an RS232 port
or is that a separate card that I need to get?)
* terminal emulator/file transfer software (preferably HP terminal
emulator, but anything with a UN*X termcap/info entry would work)
I know the answer to most of this is find a local computer store
and/or club and check them out, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I
figured I'd get impressions from more people.
Thanx,

Hi Scott, remember me! I've had an A1000 since November 85 and I love it. I added a Supra 4x4 20MB hard drive and an Alegra 512K memory expansion board to mine. Recently, I upgraded the memory board to 2MB, and what a difference it makes (The 1MB chips are getting pretty reasonable these days). I have been very pleased with both the Supra hard drive and the Alegra unit. Finally, I got Supra external 2400 baud modem. I use a VT100 terminal emulator for dialing up my work Un*x systems, and the Access! program for dialing up BBS systems. I got both of these programs from FISH disks. I got my hard drive, memory expansion unit and the modem all from Computer Discount in Colorado -- they seem to have good prices, and had real prompt service for me. Oh well, I gotta run. Say 'HI' to Susan for me. Jim Garrison Hewlett-Packard Industrial Automation Center Pacific Technology Park Sunnyvale, CA 94086 jimg@hpiacla >Thanx, You're welcome!
