I own and use AMAX, so I think I'm in a position to respond. NO you do not need a mac drive to use AMAX. AMAX can read/write to normal amiga drives, however the disks used in such a manner are NOT Mac compatible. This is fine once you've got some Mac software onto these special Amax format disks. There are two ways to accomplish this. 1. Buy a Mac disk drive and copy the programs directly. Having a mac drive has the added advantage of allowing you to use Mac disks directly with AMAX. 2. An amiga drive can reliably read 1/3 of a Mac disk, so Readysoft provides software which will allow you to convert Mac disks to the Amax/amiga kind in 3 steps. This method requires you to have access to a Mac. What happens is, on a Mac, one program copys a disk onto the amiga-readable portion of 3 other disks. Then, on the amiga, another program copys the 3 disks back to one Amax/amiga disk. This process is quite a pain, but it works. In any case, because of it I did choose to buy a Mac drive. It's not necessary, but it makes life much easier. Hope this clears it up. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- stevel@tybalt.caltech.edu CS-> | <-Ph stevel@citiago (Bitnet) \|/ I DO ... 72335,1537 (Compuserve) ? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- stevel@tybalt.caltech.edu CS-> | <-Ph stevel@citiago (Bitnet) \|/ I DO ... 72335,1537 (Compuserve) ?
